TEENAGERS
I've added the more recent videos that are currently on the teeth4life App. I have included a copy of the text, as you can always add your voice to the video, as it must be more lively than mine, and you may be able to improve them. I made a brief video on how to manipulate them in iMovie and this is the link that can be found on the teeth4life YouTube Channel, customise App playlist. https://youtu.be/a9a9OV0UQs4?si=GR5hMjFNp5knUpq6

TYPES OF BRACES
|
You no longer need to be a teenager to have your teeth straightened.
But you do need to have an x ray. So you do need to see a dentist or preferably an orthodontist. And traditionally would take a mould of the teeth. And from that we create what's called a treatment plan, where we work out which teeth need to be moved first, and if they need rotating or moving backwards and forwards, and one of the problems the public have is braces are quite noticeable. So the variety of ways we've changed over the years to try and make them less noticeable. But on the other hand, if you're paying a lot of money maybe you want people to know you've got them. The wire are regularly replaced and we have a lot of control of the movement of the teeth using these fixed wires. But they do require visits to the surgery. And as we said before, most are quite noticeable. So more recently, we've got these clear aligners, and they're excellent in that if you don't notice them. However, you need to change them regularly, about 12 of them on average. So while we can move at so they look straight, we need to make sure that the roots of the teeth are actually in the bone and not gone into areas that they shouldn't go. Using the recent technology of scanning in the mouth, and also scanning outside the mouth, which gives the images in 3d, we can predict where the roots of the teeth are going to be. And it's all done using AI and we get a really positive outcome. And of course using the same technology or rather similar technology. We can do this online. So you don't have to have as many visits as you would using traditional braces. We can give the oral hygiene instruction on line. That is definitely something that you need to keep on top of. Your teeth can continue to move throughout life. You’ll need a retainer for life. You can get them remade if you have the STL file do it on your 3d printed at home. |
DENTAL DISEASES AND HOW TO STOP THEM
|
This video is to explain the difference between dental erosion, decay, and gingivitis and how you can control them or stop them.
The enamel in your mouth is the hardest thing we know. So if you've watched any crime movies, you knew the teeth Hang on. And these little clips explain what it's about. What we didn't have so much in the 60s and 70s was this, which is dental erosion. So you might be familiar with tooth decay. There were lots of fillings done because teeth decayed. And so you take out the decay in the tooth and traditionally put in the silver fillings. What we have now is the acidity of generally carbonated drinks in your mouth. And it just takes away the enamel covering your teeth. So this is what they look like. And so we have a specific score called the BEWE , and check how your score compares to your parents. And this is what can happen. This is when you swish Coca Cola around the front of your teeth. So this is another site to get information about looking after them. Tooth decay is slightly different. What it is, is we have bacteria in your mouth, which we used to call the dental plaque, we probably should still do that. And this along with sugar produces an acid and it's this acid that dissolves the teeth and it gets colonised by the bacteria in the biofilm and that's what you need to control. So if you get rid of or disrupt the biofilm, your teeth will last longer. It's the same biofilm that actually causes the gums to bleed. What happens is that if you don't keep your your gums healthy, the biofilm changes. So it changes from generally a mix of aerobic bacteria and viruses, to anaerobic, and these bacteria make the gums swell and that's when you get bleeding. So obviously if you have a brace it's a lot more difficult. Anyway, the blood goes everywhere. And so it can produce these diseases in old age. You'll never get rid of the biofilm but you can keep it healthy. Simply by using the toothbrush in the correct manner for long enough. If they do swell up, then just by brushing your teeth correctly, they'll get healthy. The general consensus is now that if you have a healthy mouth, it's more likely that the whole body will be healthy. And so how do you check if you've got healthy mouth? We've done it for years. These are extremely inexpensive disclosing tablets. And they work for children and they work for adults. The techniques the same, you chew the tablet for a minute, move your tongue around the outside and inside of all the teeth, take a quick rinse and then look inside your mouth. There are instructions on the packet. Sometimes you can get a solution which is a bit easier. And you do the same thing you just look and you can use a mirror to look and you know take a selfie. We can all do that now. And as long as you get rid of the discoloration then you'll be fine. So there are lots of videos showing you how to clean your teeth. And so follow them. And here are a couple of other videos to help you on your way. |

SCANNING AND 3D PRINTING
|
this video was downloaded from YouTube
Dental scanners available for a long time in surgeries and in dental labs. And the technology and materials regarding 3d printing continually get better and quicker. Using the STL file and the scanner we can make your aligners. Using the same scanners, we can now make crowns in one visit, as the hardware and the software is improving all the time. Already 70% of radiographs taken in the hospital diagnosed on a computer, not by the surgeon, as the AI is more accurate. Unlike the hard dental models we used in the past, an STL file will not degenerate. You can make a variety of retainers, bleaching trays, or gum shields on a 3d printer either you send away for it, or in the future print it at the care home. You need to keep a retainer for the rest of your life. Just keep popping them in to make sure your teeth haven't moved. If it’s a bit tight, wear it more frequently. We should really be using these scanners in care homes. They can be used for health screening through asynchronous assessment, and they'll also be able to make trays with reservoirs and gels tol help protect these people who are extremely vulnerable. Portable scanners can be used even to copy their dentures. It's not new, it’s being done elsewhere. Dental therapists in the States have been doing it for years. The phone that you're using at the moment can be adapted to check for skin cancer, to ultrasound, also a scanning, who know what the next generation of phones, sensors, and software will help us improve all our nations health. |
AVERTISING AND MARKETING HEALTH
|
THIS IS A DOWNLOAD FROM YOU TUBE. ONLY HALF THE TEXT IS THERE AS I TRIED TO COMPETE WITH ELVIS And just to point out some of the difficulties we have with regard to our health, because we're bombarded with advertising. And that's changed more recently. It can be targeted, as you know, by social media, and do you trust these people? And when you have the labelling, do you look at it? And do you understand it? We get a lot of our knowledge from podcasts. Do you trust it? Well, trust these guys. It's well worth listening to. And so if we eat the wrong food, we have to have to resort to having some types of medicine. when really we should look at other options. And this podcast is even more scary than the one about food. human behaviour hasn't changed over the years. And these are quotes from someone from 50 years ago. So have these at the back of your mind when you decide to make a choice about your health. Then you can't go far wrong to you aware of TED talks, but these TED interviews are really interesting. And the one on the top is all about the future of health delivery. The following bit of advertising is incredible in that it's advertising the product that probably killed him. |
THE FUTURE
|
This is just a prediction of the future, although some of the products are already here. Following COVID Everyone's familiar with this, you couldn't get an appointment to see your doctor. But we're all used to using our phones. You should use it in the bathroom really if your cleaning the teeth, but it’s probably just as effective instructing you cleaning your teeth at home. It will save us both time and with a bit more money and it's very green. So why not? Government figures show that we can save money and potential pain with prevention. We've always known fluoride works. So we should fluoridate the water, and in the toothpaste to make it more effective, we should make it sticky. We should include the salivary minerals that we lose when we get older to make strong fluorappetite. While these products are available. This one isn’t, but it's an alternative way of how we can actually clean out the biofilm under the gum margin and as well as physically disrupting the biofilm, it releases hydrogen peroxide, which oxygenates the bacteria that are in pocket, making the gum healthy, and therefore, your teeth will last longer. We can actually paint a project onto the teeth which has been found to be just as effective as ART. It stops decay in children's teeth, and also just the same for root decay in the elderly and with the rapid advances with these scanners, they will soon carry out the diagnosis for us. This video was made only two years ago but already has been superseded and we've got everything we need on our watch, which ultimately will tell you if you're well enough to get up in the morning. So you can’t fool your parents now. |
ADVICE FOR BRACES
|
These are some instructions for your braces. Whether they're clear Invisalign type, or more traditional train tracks. You need to keep your mouth clean, and ultimately the result will be a nicer smile.
Aligned teeth make iteasier to keep your mouth clean and healthy. Remember to ask for a final STL file and that will enable you to get new retainers now and again because you probably need them for the rest of your life. Having a brace in your mouth makes it more difficult to keep your gums and your teeth clean. So you need to spend a little bit more time in the bathroom because the plaque or the biofilm that we all have in our mouth can change from being healthy aerobic, to unhealthy anaerobic that can make your gums bleed, which also has the the effect of the fact that none of us want of course, as well as gum disease and tooth decay. We want braces to have the straight teeth, but we don't want them looking like this. Another aid could be using disclosing tablets. So this little clip there shows you how to connect and you must use these brushes. So even if you don't have the fixed braces, you will need to use these little interdental brushing aids as you can see. Alternatively, you may want to do the flossing so this is the one time that you'd be quite keen for a teenager to have a go at flossing. Continue with the tooth brushing for the normal two minutes. Remember to hold the brush at the right angle. And with the slurry just spit it out. Don't rinse. If your gums start to bleed, it's the brushing that'll stop them bleeding, so persevere. For more advice, go to this website. It's got a lot more detail in, and extremely useful. |
