Prevention & copy dentures
This is a method of how to use your scanner in a slightly different manner. Or best of all, get your staff to do it, when you are busy carrying out your non digital treatment. Why not tell your patients about this facility in your news letter. you may not meet their parent, but you may scan their teeth.
tooth extraction
Generally the younger you are, the easier it is to remove teeth as your bone is less dense. As we get older the bone seems denser, and if there is no acute infection, it is more difficult to remove the tooth, unless you have gum disease and less bone. There are many variations, but this is just a rough outline. Small pieces of teeth can remain, and sometimes it's better to leave them as the gum heals over, and the pain goes. Years later the root may become present, when it is a simple five-minute painless procedure, rather than at best a thirty-minute uncomfortable one.
Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening is a safe procedure, as outlined in the video. It is essential to have your teeth and gums checked first, as it may not be appropriate for you and cause problems far worse than sensitivity. Your teeth change colour as part of the natural ageing process. In the past, we replaced crowns fitted in youth with darker ones as you got older to blend in with the natural dentition. Tooth whitening is now a far better option. In time your teeth will darken, so keep your reservoirs safe.
scanning teeth
This is a brief explanation of using scanners to protect your teeth. If you have your teeth scanned for orthodontics, at the end ask for a final STL file for your retainer. If you lose them, just like dentures, or they become grubby, just like dentures you should send off the STL file and have an identical replacement the following day. An identical shape with the dentures, but probably not ideal colours. Many dentists use the scanners only for adult orthodontics, but they can create excellent MID restorations, and now, just like the orthodontic appliances, AI design the restoration for you.
Scaling Teeth & Gum disease
We are now aware that 10% of us are prone to more serious gum disease, called periodontal disease. The video explains how and why we remove the hard deposits from your teeth, called scale. The reason for removing the scale deposits are more a case on to enable you to clean the tooth and gum interface easier and try and improve the health of your gums. An occasional clean of your gums helps, but the vast majority of the work required to avoid losing your teeth through gum disease is by yourself. While for 90% of os two minutes twice a day is adequate, with periodontal disease, you need an extra ten minutes during the day with extra cleaning aids. Ask for your BPE next time you see us.
How to make your teeth stronger
I plugged this toothpaste based on the explanation available on YouTube. The video explains how you can weaken your teeth and how you can repair and strengthen them. In the 70's Colgate had two types of toothpaste, now there are over 40. Then there is Crest, Sensodyne, Arm and Hammer, Aquafresh, Oral B, Supermarket brands. In the Supermarket, the aisles are massive advertising these products. Remember its the brush that does 95% of the work. Generally, toothpaste makes the experience more pleasurable. Have you cleaned your teeth just with water? This is the one I recommend, especially for the elderly, and it probably is the best for root sensitivity. The video explains how you can help yourself with erosion and sensitivity.
The Toothbrushing Habit
The "habit" of toothbrushing was one of the best achievements of behavioural science in the last century. Before an advertising agent, Claude Hopkins, promoted removing the "film" back n the 1930's only around 15% of Americans cleaned their teeth. It shot up to get the Pepsodent "ring of confidence" for fresh breath. it wasn't until the 50s that fluoride was added to the toothpaste. It just encouraged the twice-daily habit when in the bathroom of cleaning your teeth morning and night, and it's the brush that does 95% of the work.
